Hi everyone, I'm Rache and I'm 36 and happily single and childfree. Thought it'd be nice to join up and talk to like-minded individuals who will
never dish out abuse to people who choose not to have kids! I read the book "Childfree and loving it" by Nicki DeFago and agreed with every page -
awesome book! I've never wanted kids, never had the urge, don't really *like* them that much, and the more I see of stressed parents and ungrateful
spoiled teens today, the more I know I've made the right choice! I'm getting sick of fielding the same old responses such as "it's different
when they're your own" or "you've not met the right man yet", to which I retort "the right man for me is ALSO someone who
doesn't want kids!"
Thankfully my parents don't pressure me as they realised years ago it would be futile, and they now say they are too old to have to deal with kiddies, so I'm lucky in in that respect. I'm also lucky that my circle of close friends are either single or don't have kids, so they aren't foist upon me at regular intervals. I have a busy life and have many dreams and ambitions, all of which I see as achieveable without the anchor and financial drain of a child in my life. I work 4 days a week purely to bring money in to pay my mortgage etc, but I've been running my own small business for 2.5 years which is going really well and is definitely a niche market - fuzzy fleecy funky cage beds for rats, chinchillas, hamsters and ferrets
. The extra income
this has brought me has enabled me to pursue my obsession for all things Science Fiction, and I'm now the proud owner of a full set of Star Wars
Sandtrooper armour, and a movie accurate Ghostbuster costume complete with Proton Pack. I am a member of a worldwide Scifi costuming club and get to attend
tons of cool events all over the country, meeting all sorts of people along the way, and plenty of movie and TV stars.
We appear at events in return for charity donations to various causes we support - mainly kids charities. Last year I think we raised about £30k. We do a lot of hospital visits too, and Make a Wish days for terminally ill kids. Regardless of my feelings towards kids I still get upset when I see a young child who hasn't even started out in life, struck down by a terminal illness that will cut short his life before he can even start living it. Specially when you then see the losers and murderes and criminals of society today, going strong and leading long lives. When I see a 4 year old kid with Leukemia or an inoperable brain tumour, I really think that there surely can't be a God.....I guess I'd call myself an agnostic. I'm certainly not an atheist as I believe *something* is out there, but I'm leaning towards aliens and Pyramid theories and Maya legends and pyramid/star constellation theories now, and that's another thread I reckon! I'm certainly a nonbeliever in the Bible though, despite being dragged kicking and screaming to church by my mum when I was a kid!
I also have a passion for travel and this year fulfilled a dream of going to the Burning Man festival in Nevada - utterly awesome life-changing event and I'm going back in 2010. WHile over in the States I also spent a day in Vegas and a day driving around Lake Tahoe.....equally stunning! In 2009 I plan to go on a 2 week Mexico trip to the Maya ruins and if at all possible, a trip to the LeMans 24 hour.
I love motorsport and WW2 vintage aviation (heavy bombers and escort fighters, mostly USAF) and I posess a set of spring loaded power stilts that enable me to take 9 foot strides and run at 30mph (but I'm not that good yet!) I walk to work on them when the weather is good, and they are great for your butt and thighs I tell ya!!
When I'm not sewing fuzzy cage beds or Stormtrooping at various events, I like gardening and playing Lego Star Wars and Halo on the
XBox, plus endless movie watching - mostly scifi but I have a weakness for chick flicks and anything starring Robert Downey Jr or George Clooney. Always
partial to a bit of British Superbikes and BTCC too!
Well that's about it really, here is a pic of me in armour....scary yet cool!
